About the Journal

Jinayat: Journal of Islamic Criminal Law is a peer-reviewed academic journal published and managed by the Faculty of Sharia, UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi. The journal focuses on the development of scholarly studies in Islamic criminal law (jinayat), examined through normative, doctrinal, comparative, and empirical approaches.

The journal publishes original research articles and conceptual papers covering, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Islamic Criminal Law (Fiqh Jinayat): principles and theories of Islamic criminal law, hudud, qisas, ta?zir, criminal responsibility, evidentiary law (al-bayyinah), sanctions, and punishment in Islamic law.
  • Contemporary Issues in Jinayat: reform and reinterpretation of Islamic criminal law, human rights perspectives, restorative justice, maqasid al-shariah in criminal law, and the implementation of jinayat in modern legal systems.
  • Comparative and Positive Criminal Law: comparative studies between Islamic criminal law and national criminal law, harmonization of Islamic law with state criminal justice systems, and legal policy on criminal law.
  • Law, Crime, and Society: socio-legal studies on crime and punishment, legal culture, public morality, criminal justice institutions, and the interaction between Islamic norms, state law, and social change.

Manuscripts that fall outside the scope of Islamic criminal law and related criminal justice studies will not be considered for publication.
